What do you get when you combine connection, curiosity, simplicity, and independence? We got the Port of Lost Wonder—a family experience. The journey started with a pirate ship and the desire to create a customer-centric experience. By talking and drawing pictures with them we found that people wanted an experience that was much more than a themed water park. They wanted a place of connection and a place to make memories. A place where kids could actually exercise their independence. With kids, our challenge was to evoke a sense of wonder and fun without compromising on the clarity of information – to balance the element of “play” and “control” in Port of Lost Wonder (POLW). We eventually chose illustration as our main visual language since it was closest to the hearts of children, blending tasteful colors, whimsical shapes and cute graphics to express the excitement of the event.
